Thousands of Spanish medical workers protest austerity and plans to privatize the national health service. They marched one more time last Sunday, 16th through Madrid. Protesters marched from Atocha to Puerta del Sol dressed in white hospital scrubs, being that the reason why organizers have called the march, “a white tide”. Despite the many mass demonstrations against budget cuts, Madrid’s government, under regional president Ignacio Gonzalez, maintains cuts are needed to secure health services during a deep recession.
Protestors demonstrate during a 24-hour strike in Madrid against the governments´ austerity measures. Spain’s trade unions have called the second general strike during Mariano Rajoy’s presidency. This strike is coordinated with further strikes planned across Europe: Italy, Greece, Portugal, France and Belgium.
